Abstract pitfired sculptural figural forms by Elke Seefeldt of Arlington, Va.
Magnetic moth oil on copperplate ainting by Brianna Camp of Fairfax, Va.
Journey to shadowy corners and shady situations as artists embrace the night with pottery, glass, painting and prints in a collection of dusky delights.
Embrace an original painted cozy bat or luminous moth, see phantom botanical silhouettes on cards and prints, all with eyes watching you from kilnformed glass plates. Find dark and gnarly vase forms and tealight holders. Glance abstract figural sculptural forms and tiptoe around with black cats gracing stoneware pottery. Somber glazing veers toward midnight as forms become more dramatic and stark in the dark.
Black cat brushpainted stoneware soap dish by Tracie Griffith Tso of Reston, Va.
Grope around, tactile mysteries await. Find artisan-made original jewelry including kilnformed glass necklaces of milky skulls and porcelain pendants of sneaky cats and snooping opossums. Mood lighting reinvents itself with earthy stoneware and ghostly glass tealight holders. Explore art objects steeped in drama with birdseye topographical stoneware tiles, ebony pitfired dwelling sculptural forms and figural twisting torsos.
Choose from a selection of shades from tinted glass transparency to smokey stoneware to expressive inky black brushpainting. See plates layered with glass stripng, mummy eyes aglow. Find a face jug agape, thought to ward off evil spirits. Woodfire pottery emerges gnarly and magnificent from the kiln, their surfaces wearing the night’s own palette: ash and char, smoke and shadow. Painting turns aggressive, depicting subjects dramatically with light and dark. See a white piebald deer against the void of midnight, a prowling tiger, glowing fireflies. Catch dishware rimmed with midnight and vases echoing dusk.
Discover what intrigues and tingles the spine in the artistic realm.
